Wayanad Landslide: There was a huge uproar in the Parliament on Wednesday over the incidents of landslides in Wayanad district of Kerala. BJP MP Tejasvi Surya fiercely attacked Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi over the landslide. He said that Rahul Gandhi has been an MP from Wayanad for 1800 days and since then till today he has not raised the issue of landslides and floods even once in the House.

What did Tejasvi Surya say?

As soon as Tejasvi Surya took the name of Rahul Gandhi on the Wayanad landslide issue, there was a lot of uproar in the House and the Lok Sabha Speaker started instructing all the MPs to remain calm. Tejasvi Surya said that in 2020, the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority had suggested relocating 4000 families from the landslide affected areas, but no action has been taken till date and neither has the Wayanad MP raised this issue till date.

Why was the encroachment not removed?

The BJP MP said that in the year 2021, Forest Minister K Raju had admitted in the Kerala Assembly that he was not able to remove illegal encroachments because he was under pressure from various religious organizations. Tejasvi Surya further said that Congress MP PT Thomas had once raised this issue. After which the Congress did not even give him a ticket for the second time.

He said that the encroachments are not being removed because of Wayanad and Wayanad’s vote bank politics. Rahul Gandhi has been representing Wayanad for 1800 days and he did not raise this issue even once in the House and PT Thomas, who raised this issue, was expelled from the party.

Devastating landslide claimed lives

The death toll in the landslide incidents in Wayanad district has risen to at least 144, while 191 people are still missing. Rescue workers are busy searching for people trapped under the debris. In such a situation, the death toll may increase.
