Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is likely to visit the US in September, according to media reports. He is expected to meet Indian immigrants, students and MPs in the US. This will be Rahul Gandhi’s first foreign trip since becoming the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha.
According to the information, Rahul Gandhi may leave for America in the second week of September where he is likely to stay for 8 to 9 days. This visit of Rahul is taking place at a time when the campaign for the presidential election in America is at its peak.
This will be Rahul’s first foreign trip as the Leader of Opposition. The post of Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha remained vacant from 2014 to 2024. This was because during that period no opposition party had enough MPs to get this post. However, Rahul Gandhi was appointed Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha on June 25, 2024 after the Congress party’s number of seats reached 99 in the recently held Lok Sabha elections.
Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had visited America in June 2023 last year. He had interacted with Indian students in San Francisco and also addressed a press conference. He also interacted with the Indian community.
In March 2023, Rahul went on a tour of Britain. There he participated in many programs including Cambridge. There was also a political uproar in India over the statements made by Rahul Gandhi during his UK tour. Congress and the ruling BJP came face to face on this issue. While the BJP was asking Rahul to apologize, the Congress had also made it clear that there is no question of apology on Rahul’s statement.
