Radical organizations active in Bangladesh, Hefazat-e-Islam leaders met interim government chief Yunus

Amid political instability in Bangladesh, the interim government led by Mohammad Yunus has now started handling the fundamentalists. The controversial leader is seen meeting government representatives in the capital Dhaka. On Saturday, interim government chief Dr. Yunus met the leader of the fundamentalist group Hefazat-e-Islam Mamunul Haq and other members of his group in Dhaka. Sources say that officially the meeting between Hefazat leaders and Dr. Yunus discussed election reforms. The tenure of the Prime Minister was discussed. However, controversy has erupted after the pictures came out.

It is important to mention here that Mamunul Haque was arrested under serious charges including inciting violence during the Sheikh Hasina regime. When Sheikh Hasina left Bangladesh, most of the opposition party leaders were released by the new regime. This also includes the names of leaders of radical Islamic groups.

Jamaat-e-Bangladesh organization is also active

Mamunul Haque was among those who were released by the new government. The Jamaat-e-Islami organization is also seen to be very active in Bangladesh. Questions are being raised after this open meeting. Hefazat-e-Islam and its leaders are known for adopting an anti-India stance and often making provocative statements against India.

During the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Bangladesh, radical Hefazat-e-Islam leader Mamunul Haque had protested. This radical organization runs madrassas in Bangladesh and often opposes the Constitution of Bangladesh in its sermons.

Hefazat-e-Islam is an Islamist advocacy group that has played a key role in religious preaching in Bangladesh since its formation in 2010. The organisation, mainly composed of teachers and students of Qaumi Madrasas, aims to preserve the conservative values of Islam and oppose progressive social changes. Over the years, the group has made headlines for its hardline stance on various social and political issues, often clashing with secular factions within the country. Hardline cleric Mamunul Haque, associated with Hefazat-e-Islam, has emerged as a controversial figure. Born in 1973, Haque studied at several renowned madrasas and quickly rose to prominence due to his eloquence and Islamic knowledge. Known for his fiery speeches and uncompromising approach, Haque has attracted both ardent supporters and fierce critics.
