Putrada Ekadashi fast is observed in two ways. Nirjal fast and Falahari or Jalaski fast. Nirjal fast should be observed only by a completely healthy person. Normal people should observe Falahari or Jalaski fast. It would be better to consume only water and fruits on this day. For wishes related to children, worship Lord Krishna or Shri Hari on Ekadashi.
On the day of Putrada Ekadashi, husband and wife should worship Lord Krishna together. Offer yellow fruits, yellow flowers, Tulsi leaves and Panchamrit to Lord Krishna. Chant Santan Gopal Mantra. After chanting the mantra, husband and wife should consume the prasad together.
On Putrada Ekadashi, do not cook garlic, onion and non-vegetarian food at home. Use only clean clothes during Ekadashi pooja. Maintain a peaceful atmosphere in the family. Have faith in God. Be Satvik and do not lie.
On the day of Putrada Ekadashi, Santan Gopal Mantra should be chanted “Om Klein Devaki Sut Govinda Vasudev Jagatpate, Dehi Mein Tanayam Krishna Tvamaham Sharanam Gata” – “Om Klein Krishnay Namah”.
According to the mythological tale, in the Dwapar era, there was a city named Mahishmati. A king named Mahijit ruled in this city. But he had no children. It is said that the king made many efforts to have children. But the king could not get the happiness of having children. Then the king called all the sages and saints of the kingdom and asked them the ways to have children. After listening to the king, the sages and saints said that O King! You were a businessman in your previous life and you did not allow a cow to drink water from your pond on the day of Ekadashi of the month of Savan. Due to which that cow cursed you to remain childless.
O King! If you and your wife keep the fast of Putrada Ekadashi, then you can get freedom from this curse. After this you can get the happiness of children. Hearing this, the king along with his wife took a vow to keep the fast of Putrada Ekadashi. After this, not only the king got free from the curse, but he also got children.
