Prithvi-2 ballistic missile can cause destruction anywhere from enemy’s land to its space, user trial successful

DRDO conducted a successful night trial of India’s nuclear ballistic missile Prithvi-2 off the coast of Odisha. The reason behind the night test was to check its accuracy and lethality in the dark. This launch took place under the supervision of India’s Strategic Force Command. User trial means that new officers in the command were given training in missile launching.

The range of Prithvi-2 missile is 350 km. This missile is a single stage liquid fuel missile. 500 to 1000 kg conventional or nuclear weapons can be installed in its upper part. It is capable of deceiving the enemy’s anti-ballistic missile technology. Its successful user night trial has been conducted for the fifth time since 2019.

Pralay and Pradyumna ballistic missiles are built on this system

Taking this missile system as a base, DRDO scientists created the concept of Pralay Missile, Prithvi Air Defence (PAD) i.e. Pradyumna Ballistic Missile Interceptor. They also made it a reality. Pralay Missile has also got the green signal to be deployed on the China border. As far as PAD is concerned, these are such missiles that can destroy enemy targets by going outside the atmosphere. That too at a speed of 6174 km/hr.

Mission Shakti, conducted in March 2019 to shoot down enemy satellites in space, is also based on the technology of Prithvi missile. The Anti-Satellite Weapon (ASAT) missile was an upgraded version of the Prithvi missile. It destroyed an old inactive satellite in space.
