Police on alert on the roads, situation is slowly getting normal in Bangladesh!

After the violence and coup in Bangladesh, the situation is slowly becoming normal. Aaj Tak is continuously reporting from Bangladesh. Information is coming that after talks with the interim government, the policemen have finally returned to work. After the policemen returned to work, the alertness of the police is visible everywhere on the streets of the capital Dhaka.

Traffic is running smoothly in Old City Dhaka after the presence of police on the roads. The policemen who have returned to work face the challenge of establishing law and order in the country as well as investigating the violence where minorities were targeted and places of worship were vandalised. The police will also investigate the firing on students.

Government gave assurance: Policeman

A policeman deployed on the road told Aaj Tak that we had received orders that everyone should join duty and contribute for the country. The government has also assured us of our safety, the public is also supporting us. We hope that what happened does not happen again. There was fear in the mind, due to fear many policemen did not go to their respective duties. But now the government has given assurance, so the police has returned to the streets.

Police started patrolling

On Monday, six days after talks with the interim government, the police called off their strike and agreed to return to work with a change in uniform. Bangladeshi police have resumed patrolling in the capital Dhaka from Monday (August 12).

Consensus reached between interim government and police officials

In fact, on Sunday, a meeting was held between police representatives and Home Affairs Advisor Brigadier General (Retd) M Sakhawat Hussain, top police and Rapid Action Battalion officials. Home Secretary Jahangir Alam was also present in this meeting. He confirmed that an ‘agreement’ has been reached with the striking policemen.

’42 members of the police force killed in clashes’

On Sunday, newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Mainul Islam said at least 42 members of the police force were killed and many injured in the recent clashes. More than 500 policemen were injured and treated in hospital and more than two dozen police personnel are still undergoing treatment.

Violence on 5 August

Let us tell you that the law and order situation across the country collapsed after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned on August 5 over the controversial quota system in jobs. Many police stations were attacked and set on fire, due to which the officers stopped working fearing for their safety. The death toll in the incidents of violence that erupted across the country has so far reached 560. At the same time, amid violence and turmoil, Sheikh Hasina left Bangladesh and went to India.
