PM Modi visited the areas devastated by landslide in Wayanad, met the affected people

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday visited the landslide-ravaged areas of Wayanad district of Kerala. PM Modi, who reached Choorlamala, also visited a relief camp where many people displaced by the massive landslide live. Here the Prime Minister interacted with the rescued people, including two children who lost their loved ones in this disaster.

Modi arrived in the hill district by helicopter from Kannur airport. He visited the affected areas to assess the damage. Later, the Prime Minister visited the camp at Meppadi at around 2.30 pm and interacted with some survivors there for about half an hour.

Modi put his hands on the heads and shoulders of the victims as they wept while narrating their ordeal to the Prime Minister. Before landing in Kalpetta, Modi conducted an aerial survey of the landslide-ravaged Choorlamala, Mundakkai and Panchirimattam settlements from an IAF helicopter. He landed at SKMJ Higher Secondary School in Kalpetta and then reached Choorlamala by road, where the Army had built a 190-foot long Bailey bridge after the disaster.

The Prime Minister walked on the bridge to assess the damage. After reaching Choorlamalla, Modi got down from his vehicle, interacted with rescue workers, state Chief Secretary V Venu and district officials and surveyed the area littered with boulders and debris on foot. He was accompanied by Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Union Minister Suresh Gopi.

He also inspected the worst affected areas of Punchirimattam, Mundakkai and Choorlamalla. Hundreds of people gathered on the roadside to catch a glimpse of the Prime Minister as his convoy passed through Choorlamalla. Let us tell you that on the morning of July 30, 226 people lost their lives and more than 130 people are missing in one of the worst disasters in Kerala. At the same time, hundreds of people have been injured in this disaster.
