PM Modi spoke to Sarabjot Singh, congratulated him on winning bronze medal in Paris Olympics

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to Sarabjot Singh, who won an Olympic medal. The PM congratulated him for his excellent performance along with Manu Bhaker in the 10 meter air pistol mixed team. He praised their teamwork and expressed happiness over their achievements and said that this is a proud moment for our country.

Talking to Sarabjot on phone, Prime Minister Modi said, “Many congratulations to you. You have made India proud. Your efforts have been successful. My best wishes to Manu as well.” The Prime Minister asked, “Both of you have shown great teamwork and what is the reason behind this?”

Sarabjot and Manu have been playing together since 2019

Sarabjot told the Prime Minister that both of them have been playing together for a few years. He said in a phone call with the PM, “Since 2019, we have participated in some nationals and other tournaments. The experience has been great, and we hope to perform even better in the future.” The pair of Sarabjot and Manu competed against the players of South Korea, whom they defeated 16-10 and managed to win the bronze medal.

Manu is the first female athlete to win two medals

With the victory of Sarabjot and Manu, India has won a total of two medals in the Olympics so far. This pair scored one after the other against the South Korean team and ensured the second medal for India. With this, Manu has become the first female athlete to win two medals in a single edition of the Olympics. Earlier in the 1900 Olympic edition, Norman Pritchard had won two silver medals in 200 meters and 200 meters race.

Manu joins the ranks of Indian athletes who have won multiple individual Olympic medals. She stands alongside PV Sindhu, who won silver at Rio 2016 and bronze at Tokyo 2020.
