PM Modi reached Kerala… will visit the landslide affected areas in Wayanad, will go to the hospital to meet the injured

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kerala on Saturday morning. He will conduct an aerial survey of the landslide-affected areas in Wayanad, review relief and rehabilitation efforts and visit the hospital where the injured are being treated. More than 400 people have died and hundreds have been injured in the landslide that occurred on July 30 in this hilly district of Kerala. PM Modi’s visit is taking place amid the opposition’s demand to declare the Wayanad landslide a national disaster and increase compensation for the affected people.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and former Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for deciding to visit the area after the deadly landslide. He also expressed hope that after his visit, the Prime Minister will declare the Wayanad landslide a ‘national disaster’. PM Modi is also scheduled to visit the landslide-affected villages this afternoon. He will receive information from the rescue teams regarding the ongoing evacuation operation.

After this, the Prime Minister will visit the relief camps where the people affected by the landslide are currently living. The PM will interact with the affected people and learn about their problems. He will visit the hospital and meet those injured in the landslide who are undergoing treatment. Later the Prime Minister will chair a review meeting where he will be briefed in detail about this natural disaster and the ongoing relief efforts.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had announced PM Modi’s visit to Wayanad during a press conference earlier this week. He hoped that the central government would declare it a national and severe disaster. On July 30, a massive landslide occurred in Choorlamalla and Mundakkai in Wayanad, causing widespread devastation. More than 400 people lost their lives in the landslide, while 150 people are still missing. The CM said that the final death toll will be confirmed after DNA tests of the recovered bodies.
