PM Modi and Donald Tusk meet, both leaders emphasize on increasing strategic partnership

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Poland’s PM Donald Tusk in Warsaw on Thursday. During the meeting, the two leaders discussed several important issues and issued a joint statement. The PMs of both countries have decided to raise the relationship to the level of ‘strategic partnership’. They held extensive discussions on various aspects of bilateral partnership including trade and investment, science and technology, defense, cultural cooperation.

The two leaders agreed on economic and business cooperation in areas such as food processing, urban infrastructure, water, electric vehicles, green hydrogen, AI, mining. PM ​​Modi and Donald Tusk emphasized on further improving people-to-people relations and cultural ties. In this regard, they also mentioned the relations established between the two countries on the basis of the generosity of the Maharaja of Jamnagar and the royal family of Kolhapur.

PM Modi and Tusk also discussed important regional and global issues of mutual interest, including the conflict in Ukraine and West Asia. They expressed concern over reform of the United Nations and other international institutions, climate change action and threats posed by terrorism.

After the meeting, PM Modi said in the press conference, ‘You have been a good friend of India for a long time. You have made a huge contribution in strengthening the friendship between India and Poland. Today is a day of special significance in the relations between India and Poland. Today, after 45 years, an Indian Prime Minister has visited Poland. I have got this privilege at the beginning of my third term. On this occasion, I express my special gratitude to the Government of Poland and the people here. We Indians can never forget the generosity you showed in evacuating the stranded Indian students during the Ukraine crisis in 2022.’

‘We are celebrating the 70th anniversary of our diplomatic relations’
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, ‘This year we are celebrating the 70th anniversary of our diplomatic relations. On this occasion, we have decided to transform the relations into a strategic partnership. Relations between India and Poland are based on shared values ​​like democracy and rule of law.’
