Pictured: Plasma loops extend from the Sun after the explosion

An astro-photographer has captured stunning images of activity on the Sun.

Eduardo Schaberger Poupeau, 51, observed a spectacle of a plasma loop 100,000km high, as well as a projection of plasma completely separated from the Sun.

Mr Poupeau of Rafaela, in Santa Fe, Argentina, said: “On Tuesday 27 August, I managed to get a fascinating eminence completely separated from the Sun very close to the solar equator.

“This impressive prominence floated about 70,000 km above the surface of our star, extending 150,000 km.”

On Monday, he observed long-lasting plasma loops and said: “Our sun decided to start September with a bang.

“At 10.20 a.m. Argentina time, something hidden behind the south-eastern limb triggered a powerful M 5.5-class. explosion Which lasted for a long time. The explosion revealed beautiful plasma loops that reached heights of more than 100,000 km.

“I have seen these structures on other occasions, but never so large or so long lasting, as these loops were visible for more than six hours. It was indeed an impressive spectacle that showcased the immense power of our star.”
