Small stairs, no fire exit… students paying 18 thousand rupees as rent

After reaching the PG, the team talked to the students living there. Investigation revealed that IAS candidates are living here. One candidate told that his office is downstairs and this floor is given on rent and Aarti Chawla does not live here. Students living on the second floor are paying 18 thousand rupees as rent. The building with the official address of the councilor is also violating the MCD building bylaws. Small rooms of 10×10 are shared by two students and they also have toilets. This building has small stairs and there is no fire exit. If a major accident happens, it may be impossible to evacuate. Rules are being ignored even outside the building. Rau IAS Coaching is at some distance from this building. There is no ventilation in the 10 by 10 room. Electricity bill is being charged from the children at the rate of Rs 12 per unit whereas electricity is free in Delhi. Apart from this, there is complete encroachment outside the building as well.

Rent of small cubicles is 10 thousand rupees

How the future of our country is being prepared in a posh area like Rajendra Nagar. Just behind the Rau IAS building is a service lane, where eight small wooden cubicles have been built in the illegal basement of a building. The rent of each cubicle is Rs 10,000. Students dreaming of civil services are forced to study in these damp, cramped rooms. The situation is dire.

Library running in the basement in Karol Bagh

After Rajendra Nagar, Aaj Tak’s team went to Karol Bagh. PGs are running in a building in this posh area. Everything seemed fine here until the basement incident. The owners of small PVC cubicles here used to charge huge amounts from students by calling them legal but now the situation has changed a lot. These basements are being vacated in a hurry. Here students were being charged Rs 10,000 as rent and Rs 15,000 with food. Each set of 10 rooms has a kitchen and a toilet, in which the cost of electricity is Rs 12, even in Delhi. After Aaj Tak’s team reached

Conversation with the caretaker of the building in Karol Bagh.

Reporter: Was there one toilet for all these rooms? And what about electricity?
Caretaker: Yes, Rs 12 for electricity. Reporter: Right. It is barely enough for six or eight people per room.
Caretaker- We had closed it earlier, well, they had installed it in the middle.
Reporter- Is this PVC?
Caretaker- Yes, there were not many students here, so we had not installed it yet. We had faced water problem in the basement earlier. When our undercover reporter asked the library staff about admissions, he said- I wanted to enroll students in the library.
Deshmukh- It will be taken to another place, we are cleaning it right now.
Reporter- what is the fee?
Deshmukh- Rs 2,500.
Reporter- So will it open tomorrow?
Deshmukh- Yes, it will open tomorrow.
Reporter- Are there other such facilities?
Deshmukh- Yes, everything is there.

Deshmukh assured us that the basement library will reopen tomorrow. However, let us tell you that illegal basements are still running openly in this area. Everyone can see them, except those who should enforce the law. The condition of students coming from far away cities for coaching is bad. The library and living arrangements in the basement have surprised everyone and what is shocking is that their rent is also very high.
