The stellar performance of Indian players continues in Paris Paralympics 2024. On 7 September (Saturday), India’s Navdeep won the silver medal in Men’s Javelin Throw (F41). At the same time, India’s track and field athlete Simran Sharma won the bronze medal in the Women’s 200 meter T12 event. With these two medals, the number of medals of India in Paris Paralympics 2024 has now increased to 29. India has so far won 6 gold, 9 silver and 14 bronze medals.

India has performed its best ever in the Paralympic Games. In Tokyo Paralympics 2020, India won 5 gold, 8 silver and 6 bronze medals. With a total of 19 medals, this was India’s best performance in the Paralympic Games. Para athlete Muralikant Petkar won India’s first medal in the Paralympic Games in the year 1972. Muralikant Petkar is the same player on whose life the film ‘Chandu Champion’ was also released recently.

The T12 category in the Paralympic Games is for visually impaired athletes. Simran was born prematurely and spent the next 10 weeks in an incubator where it was discovered that she was visually impaired. Simran’s coach is her husband Gajendra Singh who serves in the Army Service Corps. She trains at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. On Thursday, Simran missed out on a medal by finishing fourth in the women’s 100m T12 final. Due to a slow start in the final of four players, Simran clocked 12.31 seconds.
