Paris Paralympics 2024: Double podium finish in high jump-javelin… touched the figure of 20 medals, India created history in Paralympics

The sixth day of the Paris Paralympics was great for India. Indian athletes won a total of 5 medals in high jump, javelin throw and 400 meters race. India has so far won a total of 20 medals (3 gold, 7 silver and 10 bronze) in the Paris Paralympics 2024 and has surpassed the number of 19 medals in the Tokyo Paralympics. This is the first time in the history of the Paralympic Games that India has won 20 medals. In the final of the men’s javelin throw F46 event, Ajit Singh won the silver medal with a personal best throw of 65.62 meters. Sundar Singh Gurjar won the bronze medal with a season’s best throw of 64.96.

Cuba’s Varona Gonzalez won the gold medal in this event with a throw of 66.14 meters. With this, India achieved its first double podium finish in athletics at the Paris Paralympics. However, shortly after this, Sharad Kumar and Mariyappan Thangavelu once again gave India a chance for a double podium finish in the high jump T63 event. Sharad Kumar won the silver medal with a jump of 1.88 meters and Mariyappan won the bronze medal with a jump of 1.85 meters. America’s French Ezra won the gold medal in this event with a jump of 1.94 meters.

Earlier in the day, Deepti Jeevanji won the bronze medal in the women’s 400m T20 race event with a timing of 55.82 seconds. Ukraine’s Yulia Shulyar won the gold medal in this event with a timing of 55.16 seconds. Turkey’s Aysel Onder won the silver medal with a timing of 55.23 seconds. In archery, Pooja easily won her round of 16 match in the women’s individual recurve open. But she missed a big chance to upset China’s Wu Chunyan in the quarterfinals. She could have won the match 6-0 with an arrow of 9, but she lost 4-6 due to missing.

In shooting, Avani Lekhara qualified for the final in the women’s 50m rifle 3 position SH1. But in the medal match, she had to finish fifth after a strong start due to missing some shots in the prone round. After Tokyo, Avani also won the gold medal in 10m in Paris. In 50m 3P, she won the bronze medal in Tokyo. Earlier yesterday was a historic day for India, where a total of eight medals were won. Earlier in the day, in athletics, Bhagyashree Jadhav finished fifth in the women’s shot put F34 event.
