The closing ceremony of the Paris Paralympics 2024 is underway. The Paralympic Games were historic for India, where the country performed its best ever and won a total of 29 medals, including 7 gold, 9 silver and 13 bronze medals. India was led by archer Harvinder Singh and athlete Preeti Pal as flag bearers in the ceremony. Both proudly attended the closing ceremony with the Indian tricolor.
French President Emmanuel Macron also became a part of this memorable closing ceremony. This grand event was named ‘Paris is a Party’, in which French singer Santa gave a tremendous performance.
China topped the medal table at the Paris Paralympics by winning a total of 220 medals, including 94 gold, 76 silver and 50 bronze medals.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed happiness over this unprecedented achievement of Indian para athletes and in a special tweet on social media, said, “Paris Paralympics 2024 has been special and historic for India. Our exceptional para athletes won 29 medals, which is the best performance ever since India’s debut in the Games. This achievement is a testament to the unwavering dedication and indomitable spirit of our players.”
Technology was also used extensively in the closing ceremony. Attractive lights and fireworks decorated with the colours of the French flag made the ceremony unique. The contribution and achievements of athletes from all over the world were appreciated through a laser light show.
A special moment was seen during this ceremony when the emotions of the players as well as the sports fans were at their peak. Now after four years, the Olympic and Paralympic Games will be organized in Los Angeles, for which excitement is already being seen.
Paralympic torch transferred, sent to LA
The Paralympic torch was transferred to a smaller torch, which was sent to Los Angeles. The cauldron in Paris was slowly extinguished, now, in the final part of the show, DJs are going to spread their magic at the Stade de France. The Paralympic torch has now been handed over to the United States, where the next edition of the games will be held. The US flag was hoisted in Paris and the national anthem was played.
