The biggest Maha Kumbh of sports, Olympic Games, was held in Paris this time. Paris Olympics 2024 started on 26 July and concluded on 11 August. India’s performance in Paris Olympics was mixed. India won five bronze and one silver medal in these Olympic Games. India remained at 71st position in the medal tally with 6 medals.

The United States was the most successful country with 126 medals (40 gold, 44 silver and 42 bronze). The biggest controversy in Paris Olympics 2024 was about Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat. Vinesh Phogat performed brilliantly in the Paris Olympics and made it to the finals of the women’s 50 kg freestyle. However, she was disqualified due to being 100 grams overweight. In such a situation, the medal was taken away from her.

Vinesh Phogat appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against her disqualification and demanded that she be given a joint silver medal. However, CAS rejected the appeal of star wrestler Vinesh Phogat. This means that Vinesh did not get the medal. The hearing of this case had already taken place, but the date of the verdict was being continuously postponed. But the decision came in this case on Wednesday (August 14). CAS rejected Vinesh’s appeal.

This athlete was stripped of bronze

American gymnast Jordan Chiles was stripped of her bronze medal. While in the floor event of gymnastics, Romania’s Ana Barbosu won the bronze medal despite losing. Let us tell you that Jordan was third and Ana was fourth in the event. After losing the match, Ana Barbosu and her team filed a case in CAS. They had said that Jordan Chiles was given points wrongly, due to which she was third.

There was a long hearing in CAS in this case and they found Ana right. CAS also deducted Jordan Chiles’ score. After the decision, Jordan Chiles’ score was made 13.666. With this, she reached the fifth position. While Ana Barbosu came to the third position. In this way, after the court’s decision, Ana was given the bronze medal.

Algerian player’s gender controversy

Algerian boxer Iman Khalifa was in the headlines during this Olympic Games. Khalifa defeated China’s Yang Liu to win the gold medal for Algeria. This was the second time that an Algerian boxer won gold at the Olympics. However, more than the victory, Iman Khalifa was in the headlines due to the gender controversy. Khalifa was accused of being a biological male. It was also claimed that her testosterone hormone level is like that of men. Khalifa could not meet the gender eligibility criteria in the 2023 World Championship and was out.

Iman Khalifa won the match against Italian boxer Angela Carini in just 46 seconds in the round of 16. The reason for this was that Angela left the match midway due to a nose injury. However, she later said that she did not lose the match but considered herself a winner, after which there was a lot of controversy. On the other hand, despite the criticism, Khalifa stood firm. She said that she was born a woman and has always competed in the women’s category. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) also supported her. When Khalif won the gold, she received widespread support from fans and fellow athletes, who condemned hate speech and transphobia towards her.

This Australian got caught in a cocaine controversy

Hockey player Tom Craig became embroiled in a controversy over buying cocaine during the Paris Olympics. Craig, a member of the Australian men’s hockey team, was arrested for trying to buy cocaine. He was detained along with a 17-year-old suspected seller. However, 28-year-old Craig was later released with a warning and no formal charges were filed.

After his release, Tom Craig apologized for the entire incident. Craig said that he made a big mistake and takes full responsibility for it. The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) stripped Craig of his Olympic athlete privileges and he could not participate in any other Olympic activities, including the closing ceremony.

This champion swimmer was seen sleeping on the ground in the park

Italy’s champion swimmer Thomas Sacon was seen sleeping on the floor in a park. Thomas had highlighted the poor conditions of the Olympic Village. Sacon had also complained about it publicly. Sacon had said that he was unable to sleep due to the heat and noise. Sacon won two medals at the Paris Olympics. He won gold in the men’s 100m backstroke event and bronze in the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay. Sacon was seen sleeping in a park in an Instagram story shared by Saudi Arabian athlete Hussain Alireza.
