Paris Olympics 2024 Day 8 Roundup: The biggest Maha Kumbh of sports, Olympic Games, is being held in Paris this time. The eighth day (3 August) of Paris Olympics 2024 was nothing special for India. Manu Bhaker missed out on making a hat-trick in shooting. Manu secured fourth position in the final of Women’s 25 meter pistol. While Nishant Dev missed out on a medal in boxing. Nishant had to face defeat in the quarter-finals of Men’s 71 kg weight category. On the other hand, with the defeat of Deepika Kumari and Bhajan Kaur, the Indian challenge in archery ended. Indian players also failed to live up to expectations in golf and sailing.

Friday was a day of unprecedented success for India when badminton star Lakshya Sen created history by reaching the men’s singles semi-finals. At the same time, the Indian hockey team defeated Australia after 52 years in the Olympics and raised hopes of a better medal in Paris after the bronze in Tokyo. However, India did not have many events on Saturday, the 8th day of the competition. Everyone’s eyes were on Manu Bhaker and the women archers, but luck did not favor them. Let us know in which sports the Indian players showed their strength on the eighth day.

Shooting: Manu Bhaker’s dream of a hat-trick of medals in the Olympics could not be fulfilled after she lost to a Hungarian player in the shoot-off for the bronze medal in the 25m sports pistol. Manu gave her all in the close final of eight shooters and was in second place for some time, but could not maintain her consistency. However, this 22-year-old player had already created history by winning two bronze medals in women’s 10m air pistol and mixed team 10m air pistol along with Sarabjot Singh. She is the first Indian to win two medals in the same Olympics.

After this, Manu could hit only three out of five shots in the shoot-off, while Major won the bronze medal with four accurate shots. She missed the bronze medal by a close margin and joined the list of shooters like Jaideep Karmakar (men’s 50m rifle prone, 2012 London), Abhinav Bindra (men’s 10m air rifle, 2016 Rio) and Arjun Babuta (10m air rifle, 2024 Paris Olympics).

Archery: Deepika Kumari, playing her fourth Olympics, lost to South Korea’s Nam Suhyeon in the quarterfinals of the women’s singles archery event despite taking the lead twice, while young archer Bhajan Kaur also lost in the pre-quarterfinals, continuing India’s 36-year wait for an archery medal at the Olympics.

India’s 23rd seed Deepika had a 4-2 lead against the current Games’ women’s team event gold medalist and second seed Suhyeon in the last eight match, but eventually lost 4-6 (28-26, 25-28, 29-28, 27-29, 27-29), which once again ended India’s campaign in archery without a medal. Deepika had earlier defeated Germany’s seventh seed Michelle Kroppen 6-4 (27-24, 27-27, 26-25, 27-27) in the pre-quarterfinals.

Boxing: In boxing, the eyes of Indian fans were on Nishant Dev. Nishant Dev faced Marco Verde of Mexico in the 71 kg weight category of men’s boxing, where he lost 1-4. If Nishant had won the quarter-finals, he would have won at least a bronze medal. But he lost even after taking a lead in the first round.
