China’s world number one table tennis player Wang Chuqin suffered a crushing defeat in the men’s Olympic singles on Wednesday. His bat was broken a day earlier. Wang won the gold medal in mixed doubles in Paris on Tuesday, but his happiness soon turned into anger. In fact, a photographer accidentally pulled his bat while jostling to take a picture. Less than 24 hours later, Wang was eliminated in the 32nd round of singles after losing 4-2 to Sweden’s Truls Moregard. After the win, 26th ranked Moregard could not believe it and sat down on the floor. He put his hand on his head. The two days were mixed for 24-year-old Wang.

The bat matters
With her partner Sun Yingsha, she defeated North Korea in the mixed doubles final, but Wang admitted that she ‘lost control of her emotions’ after her bat broke. An old bat and its grip are very important for table tennis players. However, Wang said that the bat had no role in the defeat.

He told the news agency that it didn’t really affect the match. It just happened that the player in front of me played very well. Wang will now participate in the men’s team event. The victorious Moregaard said that he ‘felt like I could beat him today’, having tried for the last eight times but it never happened.

“I have almost never won a set against Wang, so it is a great pleasure to win at the Olympics,” the Swede said as he entered the last 16 for the first time.

Moregaard, who is trained by his older brother Malte, said Wang did not give his best, but added that it had nothing to do with the Chinese player’s bat.
