Radical Islamic preacher Anjem Choudhry, who has dual British and Pakistani citizenship, has been sentenced to life imprisonment. He has been found guilty of running a terrorist organization, for which he has been sentenced to 28 years.

Anjem Chaudhary was found guilty of operating the banned terrorist organization Al-Muhajiroun (ALM) and promoting it online. He founded this organization in 1996 and was working for the organization since then. He was operating the organization by changing its name so that the organization would not be banned.

The terrorist organization was banned in 2006

The court said, “Organisations like yours normalise violence in search of ideological reasons. They create divisions between people who live together peacefully.” ALM was first banned by Britain in 2006 for operating under the name Al Ghurabaa. In 2010, ALM was included in the ban as an alternative name.

The court found that Choudhry was working for ALM until July 2023. He was identified while giving online speeches to an offshoot group called the Islamic Thinkers Society, which was infiltrated by the undercover team. He was then arrested.

He was sentenced to five years in this case but was released soon. The court had granted him bail with certain conditions but after the conditions expired, he again got involved in terrorist activities.
