Pakistan has invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting to be held in Islamabad in the month of October. The summit of the heads of government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) will be held in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan.
According to the agency, Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said that invitations have been sent to the heads of member countries to attend the meeting to be held on October 15-16. Under this, an invitation has also been sent to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She said that some countries have already confirmed their participation in the meeting, information about which will be given at the appropriate time.
When asked about relations with India, the Pakistani spokesperson said that Pakistan does not have direct bilateral trade with India.
Let us tell you that before this summit to be held in Islamabad, there will be several rounds of ministerial meetings and meetings of senior officials. These will focus on financial, economic, socio-cultural and humanitarian cooperation among the SCO member countries. SCO includes India, China, Russia, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan,
India hosted the SCO summit held in virtual mode last year, and was attended online by Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. However, then Pakistan Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari visited India in May 2023 to attend the 2-day meeting of the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers in Goa, the first Pakistani foreign minister to visit India in nearly 12 years.
India and Pakistan have a long history of tense relations, primarily due to the Kashmir issue and cross-border terrorism from Pakistan. India has maintained that it wants normal neighbourly relations with Pakistan.
