PAK honoured top Chinese general with Nishan-e-Imtiaz, called the Dragon its evergreen friend

General Li Qiaoming, Commander of Ground Forces of China’s People’s Liberation Army, has been conferred the Nishan-e-Imtiaz, one of Pakistan’s highest civilian awards, for his unwavering commitment to promoting close cooperation between the armies of the two countries. General Qiaoming was honoured at a special investiture ceremony held at the President House, which was attended by Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Army Chief General Asim Munir, Navy and Air Force chiefs.

According to the report of the state news agency Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), ‘The citation given during the ceremony highlighted the four-decade career of General Li Qiaoming. His important contribution to the Chinese army was mentioned.’ The citation read, ‘General Li Qiaoming’s wisdom, administrative skills and dedication have earned him a reputation as a courageous and capable officer. He has played an important role in promoting peace and stability in China and beyond. As a friend of Pakistan, he significantly strengthened Pak-China military relations with unwavering commitment.’

Earlier, General Qiaoming met Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on August 26. The two discussed various aspects of Pakistan-China friendship, particularly bilateral security and strategic partnership. PM Sharif emphasized that Pakistan and China are evergreen strategic allies, partners and trusted friends. He highlighted that the deep ties between the two countries have political, institutional and broad public support in Pakistan. Defense and strategic relations between Pakistan and China are important for peace and stability in the region. These relations form the foundation of their bilateral relations.

General Li described China as Pakistan’s iron brother, strategic partner and reliable friend. He said that China gives top priority to its relations with Pakistan. The General expressed his desire to elevate the relations between the two countries to new levels of cooperation. He appreciated the role of Pakistan’s armed forces in promoting regional peace and stability and fighting terrorism. General Li reiterated PLA’s commitment to further enhance its cooperation with Pakistan to enhance capacity building of the armed forces.
