PAK had not won any Olympic medal for 32 years, now Nadeem has won the first individual gold

Pakistan won the javelin throw event in Paris Olympics. Pakistan’s javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem performed so well in this event that he ended the country’s 32-year Olympic drought. Pakistan’s player Arshad Nadeem has created a new Olympic record in the javelin throw event in Paris Olympics.

Nadeem threw the javelin 92.97 meters in the second attempt. In the last round, he threw the javelin 91.7 meters. However, he had committed a foul in the first round, while in the third round he threw the javelin 88.72 meters. The country had hopes of gold from India’s Neeraj Chopra, but he had to be content with silver.

Nadeem’s spear brought a medal to Pakistan after three decades
The distance covered by Arshad Nadeem’s spear has not only created a new Olympic record but has also brought Pakistan in the medal queue once again. If we look at Pakistan’s medal history in the Olympics, the neighbouring country last won a medal in 1992. Then in the Barcelona Olympics 1992, the Pakistani men’s hockey team won the bronze medal. Since then, Pakistan has not won any medal.

Pakistan also got its first medal in Paris Olympics
Pakistan has not yet won any medal in the Paris Olympics 2024. It had sent seven athletes for these games. Out of these, only Arshad Nadeem has been able to live up to Pakistan’s expectations. Pakistan has won a total of 10 medals in the Olympic Games, including three gold.

Hockey has been a hit in Pakistan too
Hockey is the national sport for India, but Pakistan has also created no less records in it. The neighbouring country has won eight medals including three gold medals. Pakistan also has three silver and two bronze medals in hockey. Its remaining two medals include two bronze medals which were won in boxing and wrestling. Pakistan won its first Olympic medal in 1956 in Melbourne when it won silver in hockey.

When did Pakistan get medals?
After this, the Pakistani hockey team won gold in 1960, silver in 1964, gold in 1968, silver in 1972, bronze in 1976, gold in 1984 and bronze in 1992. During this period, it dominated the Olympics from 1956 to 1976. It made it to the finals in five out of six consecutive Olympics. It did not participate in 1980 and after that won gold again in 1984.

Pakistan could not qualify for the last three Olympics in hockey
The Pakistani hockey team has not won an Olympic medal since 1992. Although it had a chance in 2000, it lost the bronze medal match. After this, its performance declined. It finished fifth in 2004, eighth in 2008 and seventh in 2012. Since then, the Pakistani hockey team has not been able to qualify for the Olympics.

Pakistan has got two individual medals
Pakistan has won only two individual medals in its Olympic history. First, in 1960, Mohammad Bashir won bronze in the 73 kg category in the welterweight event of men’s wrestling. He is the only Pakistani wrestler to have an Olympic medal. After him, Hussain Shah also won bronze for Pakistan in 1988. He got this medal in the middleweight event of men’s boxing.

Javelin throw records at a glance

The world record in javelin throw is 98.48 meters
The world record of javelin throw is registered in the name of a player from Czech Republic. Three-time world champion and Olympic champion, Czech Republic’s legendary athlete Jan Zelezny registered the world record of men’s javelin throw in his name by throwing 98.48 meters during an athletics competition in Germany in 1996. Which is still intact till date.

The Olympic record in javelin throw is 90.57 meters
If we talk about the Olympic record in javelin throw, then this record is in the name of Andreas Thorkildsen. Andreas made this record on 23 August 2008 in the Beijing Olympics by throwing the javelin 90.57 meters away.
