Overflowing rivers, broken embankments… Satellite images capture flood-hit North India

Heavy rains in North India have caused flash floods, landslides and house collapses in Rajasthan, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and neighboring areas. Normal life has been disrupted due to flash floods and landslides caused by torrential rains in many North Indian states, with Himachal Pradesh being the worst affected. Apart from this, there are reports of loss of life and property in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. 338 roads, including four national highways, have been closed due to landslides and flash floods in Himachal Pradesh.

According to official information, due to severe waterlogging in Una district of Himachal Pradesh, there is water everywhere from roads to houses. At the same time, the Sutlej river in Himachal is in spate, due to which flood-like conditions have been created in many areas. Due to heavy rains, the water level of the Beas river has also increased, due to which flood-like conditions have been created in Mandi as well.

The pictures taken from the Sutlej Vyas satellite last Sunday clearly show that after the release of excess water from the Sutlej river, the water level of the Ghaggar river is rising and its stream has become about 380 meters wide. The Ghaggar State Emergency Operation Center said that 104 roads in Shimla, 71 in Mandi and 58 in Sirmaur are closed. Apart from this, 488 electricity and 116 water supply lines have been disrupted.

Let us tell you that since Sunday evening, 115 mm of rain has been recorded in Nagal, 87 mm in Kasauli and 56 mm in Una. At the same time, according to the data of the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), 55 people are missing since August 1, including 33 people from Samej and Bagipul areas of Shimla and Kullu districts.

Flood-like conditions prevail in Ropar, Anandpur Sahib and Hoshiarpur districts of Haryana and Punjab. Apart from this, flood-like conditions prevail in Bhuntar, Kharal, Mandi and Taradevi districts of Himachal Pradesh. Villages in Punjab have been flooded for the second time within a month, causing great damage to standing crops. At the same time, many villages in Yamunanagar district of Haryana have been submerged after a crack appeared in the embankment of Som river.
