After heavy rains in Delhi-NCR on Wednesday, waterlogging occurred in many areas. In many videos viral on social media, water was seen dripping in the lobby of the new Parliament building. The opposition raised questions on this and said that ‘this is a leaky government’. Now the Lok Sabha Secretariat has issued a clarification on this.

Lok Sabha Secretariat gave clarification

The Lok Sabha Secretariat said, ‘There are media reports that heavy rains in Delhi on Wednesday led to water seepage in the lobby of the new Parliament building, raising concerns about the weather tolerance of the building. It has also been reported that waterlogging was observed around the premises, especially near the Makar Dwar of the new Parliament, several videos of waterlogging are going viral on social media.’

Remove adhesive from glass domes

The secretariat said, ‘It is noteworthy that keeping in mind the concept of Green Parliament, glass domes have been built in many parts of the building, including the lobby, so that natural light can be used in the day-to-day functioning of the Parliament.’

The statement said, “During heavy rains on Wednesday, the adhesive material on the glass domes above the lobby of the building got slightly removed, which caused minor leakage of water in the lobby. However, the problem was detected timely and corrective measures were taken immediately. Thereafter, no leakage of water was observed. The water accumulated in front of Makar Dwar also drained out quickly.”

Congress said- ‘This is a leaky government’

Recently, Congress leader Pramod Tiwari had targeted the government and said that this is a leaky government. First the paper was leaked and now the building is also leaking. When the Parliament was adjourned at 8 o’clock, the MPs were coming out drenched in the rain. The new Parliament building does not even have a portico. It seems there is no arrangement for drainage. This issue will be raised in the House.
