Omar Abdullah will contest elections from Ganderbal in Jammu and Kashmir, NC releases second list of 32 candidates

The election bugle has been sounded in Jammu and Kashmir. In such a situation, the National Conference (NC) released the second list of 32 candidates on Tuesday. Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will contest from Ganderbal.

Javed Hussain Beg will contest from Baramulla, Ehsan Pardesi from Lal Chowk and Shamimi Firdous from Habba Kadal. Earlier, Omar had said that he will not contest the assembly elections until Jammu and Kashmir gets back the status of a state.

Earlier on Monday, the National Conference had released its first list of 18 candidates, which included names like Mohammad Khalil Band from Pulwama, Sheikh Mohammad Rafi from Shopian, Khalid Najeeb Soharwardy from Doda.

Let us tell you that after a long discussion between the National Conference and the Congress, an agreement was reached on Monday regarding the seat sharing in the state. According to the seat-sharing formula, the National Conference will contest on 51 seats while the Congress will contest on 32 seats. Apart from this, the Marxist Communist Party (CPI-M) and the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party, which are part of the alliance of the two parties, have been given one seat each.

Assembly elections in three phases

Elections for the 90 assembly seats of Jammu and Kashmir will be held in three phases on September 18, September 25 and October 1. The results are expected to be announced on October 4. This will be the first assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir after the removal of Article 370 and division into union territories – Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Since 2019, Jammu and Kashmir has been governed as a union territory, with major powers vested with the Lieutenant Governor. The current governor of Jammu and Kashmir is Manoj Kumar Sinha.
