Olympics: Support staff of Vinesh Phogat, who was disqualified due to being overweight, will be investigated

After Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from the Paris Olympics 2024 final, the WFI president has ordered an inquiry into her support staff. Vinesh’s weight was about 100 grams more than the limit. Now her competitor in the semi-finals, Cuba’s Yusnelis Guzman, has been given a place in the final.

Vinesh weighed around 49.9 kg before the semi-final match, but usually she weighs 57 kg, so she has to work very hard to keep herself within the weight limit. Even a little food would increase her weight to at least 53 kg.

After the semi-finals, she weighed around 52.7 kg. She tried to lose weight continuously without taking a break, without eating or drinking. Vinesh Phogat was successful in bringing her weight down to 50.1 by the morning. However, she did not get more time to lose the remaining weight.

Is Vinesh’s support staff accountable?

Vinesh Phogat had reportedly gained two kilos by Tuesday night. Her coach and support staff members tried a lot of measures to reduce Vinesh’s weight. She did not sleep the whole night, took very little water, kept skipping, jogging and cycling for hours in the gym of the Olympic Games Village. Apart from this, Vinesh Phogat also got her hair cut but no measure proved effective and her weight was found to be 100 grams more than the limit.

Questions arising on staff

Now the question is arising that why his support staff failed to keep an eye on his weight.
A personal staff including renowned Hungarian coach Volar Akos and physio Ashwini Jeevan Patil was appointed to take care of him. He tried hard to lose weight but could not do so due to running out of time.
