Instructions on how to play the game are given below. The answers to Friday’s puzzle are towards the end of the article, so scroll with caution if you want to solve it yourself.

Players are tasked with grouping 16 words into four categories based on association. For example, look at Wednesday’s word puzzle Cater, host, scheme And to throw Joined together in the category “Help at the party.”

Each of the four categories is labeled with a color, indicating their difficulty level. Yellow is the simplest category, followed by green, blue and purple. However, the puzzles are rarely straightforward, using homophones and wordplay, among other techniques, to keep players challenged. The past has ranged from Quentin Tarantino movies to geometric words.

The familiarity of the words used and how often they appear in contemporary life are also factors of difficulty. “Item overlap,” where a word can be linked to multiple categories, tests the connections player in another way.

If stuck, players can hit the shuffle button, which will shuffle where the words appear on the screen.

Users have four attempts to guess the four groups correctly. If you are unable to get all four connections, the answers and their corresponding difficulty color will be revealed at the end.
