Notorious Naxal Jetty, with a bounty of 24 lakhs, arrested, had carried out more than 35 attacks

Police and security forces have achieved a major success against Naxalites in Chhattisgarh. A senior police officer said that a Naxalite involved in about three dozen incidents of Naxalite violence in two states and carrying a reward of Rs 24 lakh has been arrested in Bijapur district.

He said Sonu Munshi Jetty alias Vikas (35) was arrested by security forces from a forest near Bhatpalli village in Bhairamgarh police station area. The 13/E battalion of the Chhattisgarh Armed Force and local police arrested him when he was being transferred to a hospital in Jagdalpur city for treatment.

The officer said that the security personnel have seized Rs 80,000 cash, Naxal uniforms, Naxal literature, pamphlets, notebooks and medicines from Vikas. He said, since the arrested Naxal had good relations with another Naxal Dilip Bedja, Dilip Bedja called him for treatment and also provided money.

The official said that Vikas was active as Aheri Dalam Divisional Committee Member (DVCM) under South Gadchiroli Division of the banned organization Community Party of India (Maoist). He said that there was a reward of Rs 16 lakh on him in Maharashtra and Rs 8 lakh in Chhattisgarh.

The officer said that the arrested Naxalite was involved in more than 35 incidents of Naxalite violence in Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Telangana. He was produced before a special court constituted for National Investigation Agency (NIA) cases and sent to jail.
