Not only Old Rajendra Nagar, these are the top 5 cities of the country for preparing for civil services, where there is a crowd of students

Three students died due to sudden flooding in the basement of Old Rajendra Nagar in Delhi. These three were youngsters who had come to Delhi with dreams of joining the civil services and becoming IAS-IPS. They were busy preparing for the exam by staying in small cabins in the narrow lanes of Old Rajendra Nagar area. These three children or Old Rajendra Nagar is not the only place where students are facing struggle. More or less, similar conditions prevail in all the cities of the country.

Old Rajendra Nagar: Every inch is precious

Rupendra, a student preparing for the exam in Old Rajendra Nagar, says that everyone in this area is money hungry. These people are so money hungry that a small room is available here for Rs. 20,000. Similarly, they open a library in the basement and give students an exit. You will find a basement library at every step, their number is around 60 to 70. 300-400 students study in each of them. All of them follow a formula, one entry one exit. In case of any accident, students are unable to escape.

The situation is similar in Mukherjee Nagar too

Mukherjee Nagar, another hub of IAS IPS preparation in Delhi, is also facing similar conditions. A few months ago, a coaching centre caught fire here and the children were jumping from the top as if they were toys. The students are facing problems like the atmosphere here, the high cost of rooms in residential areas up to Nehru Vihar, less facilities, expensive fees, thousands of students in one coaching. Om Agarwal, a student preparing for the last 4 years by staying in Mukherjee Nagar, says that we keep raising our problems from time to time, but students come here to study, no one has enough time to protest every day, to go to court. Om says that we had also protested yesterday and demanded that the classes and library in the basement should be closed in any case. Apart from this, we should get rid of waterlogging and the web of wires in our area so that no one else dies by getting stuck to Nilesh Gate. Om says that the way a UPSC aspirant died recently by getting stuck to the transformer, it shakes us up.

Coaching is also done in Prayagraj

About 15-20 years ago, Allahabad, which is now known as Prayagraj, was also considered a hub for UPSC coaching. Today, even though students from Uttar Pradesh have to settle in other states for UPSC, there is still no dearth of students preparing here. The condition of areas like Allahpur, Daraganj, Teliarganj and Baghada in Prayagraj is also not very good. Here more than one student is living in small rooms. Narrow lanes, dark rooms, dampness and a web of wires in the lanes make these areas as disorganized as Mukherjee Nagar or Old Rajendra Nagar. There is a plethora of coaching centers here where the fight among students can be clearly seen.

Lucknow-Jaipur-Patna is also becoming a coaching hub

In the last few years, it has been seen that UP’s capital Lucknow is also slowly expanding its reach in the direction of UPSC coaching. Here, coaching centres considered to be the country’s brands are opening their branches in Lucknow as well. Kapurthala area and its surrounding areas like Aliganj etc. are becoming a market for coaching students. Apart from this, UPSC coaching institutes have also started taking roots in Rajasthan’s capital Jaipur and Bihar’s capital Patna.

There is no regulation on coaching institutes

Educationist Shashi Prakash Singh has been teaching students of many coaching institutes preparing for competitive exams for the last 15 years. He says that coaching institutes have emerged as a big business in the country in the last few years. The main reason behind this is that there is no regulator behind them that can keep an eye on coaching institutes. Coaching institutes have become notorious for their arbitrariness. Any rule or law has become a game for them. There is no regulatory body that can keep an eye on them. It can keep an eye on whether any coaching institute is following any parameter before opening it or not.
