HLPF will run till July 17

Ambassador Yojna Patel, India’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, made these remarks on Monday while addressing the High-Level Political Forum panel on ‘From the SDG Summit to the effective delivery of sustainable, resilient and innovative solutions’ at the UN General Assembly. The High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) began on July 8 and will run till July 17, with the theme ‘Strengthening the 2030 Agenda and poverty eradication in times of multiple crises: effective delivery of sustainable, resilient and innovative solutions.’

Fully integrated into SDG strategies

Patel said, “India is proud of its SDG localisation model, which is based on four pillars: institutional ownership, collaborative competitiveness, capacity building and whole society approach. India’s strong economic growth indicators have resulted from systemic reforms, inclusive policies and leveraging digital public infrastructure.” He explained how India has fully integrated the SDGs into its national development strategies. He informed that NITI Aayog, India’s premier national think tank, guides both central ministries and state governments in implementing the SDGs.

India will become a developed nation by 2047

As India aspires to become a developed nation by 2047, which coincides with its 100th year of independence, India reiterated its unwavering commitment to partnerships, including South-South cooperation. With the world facing the “regrettable reality” that only 12 per cent of the SDG targets are currently on track, Patel said there is an urgent need for a renewed commitment to Agenda 2030 and its goals. Patel said India sees the High-Level Political Forum as a platform to share best practices and galvanise global commitment to realising Agenda 2030.
