NIRF Rankings 2024: IGNOU ranks first among open universities, IIT Madras tops these categories

NIRF Ranking 2024 Open Universities: Three new categories have been added this year in the latest National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024 released by the Ministry of Education. These include state universities, skill universities and open universities categories. Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has got the first place in the ranking of open universities of the country released for the first time.

After IGNOU, Netaji Subhash Open University, Kolkata has secured second place in the country’s Open Universities NIRF 2024 ranking, while Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University, Ahmedabad has secured third place. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan presented this honor in the ninth edition of NIRF ranking in New Delhi last Monday.

IGNOU Vice Chancellor Prof. Uma Kanjilal received the award given to the university for securing the top position in the Open University category. The Education Minister also praised the important role of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) like IGNOU in increasing access to education for marginalised communities, especially women from rural and semi-urban areas, and thus promoting gender equality.

IGNOU announces Hindi-Tamil national seminar

IGNOU’s School of Journalism and New Media Studies has announced a national seminar in Hindi and Tamil languages. This online seminar, the first and unique of its kind in the country, is going to be held on 27 September 2024 during Hindi month. Research papers based on various dimensions of Hindi and Tamil media have been invited for this event. Only research papers written in Hindi and Tamil languages ​​will be given place in this seminar.

Vidyapeeth Director Prof. K.S. Arul Selvan said that this is a unique initiative of IGNOU where we are presenting a common platform for teachers and researchers working in both Hindi and Tamil languages. According to Dr. Amit Kumar, the convener of this national seminar, this is probably the first such effort in the country.

He said that every year during Hindi month (September) the Vidyapeeth has been organising a seminar to provide a national platform to research papers written in Hindi language. This year Tamil has also been included in this seminar with the aim of promoting mutual coordination among Indian languages. In the coming years, other Indian languages ​​will also be included in it.
