In Jharkhand’s Bokaro district, when the NHAI team reached to remove encroachment from the school, an elderly teacher closed the door and committed suicide in front of the administration. According to the information, the team had gone to remove encroachment for the Ranchi Bokaro road construction work being built under the Bharatmala Project. In front of the administration, the elderly woman closed the door and set herself on fire. With the help of other people present on the spot, the police somehow broke the door and took her out. After this, the team returned without clearing the encroachment.
This case is of Darid Panchayat of Petarwar police station area of the district. A school is being run here by Anand Marg. Sadhvi associated with the institution used to look after the school. That land has been identified for the construction of Ranchi Bokaro four-lane road for Bharatmala project. The land acquisition department has also allocated compensation amount of Rs 4 crore for the said land, but due to the dispute between the institution and the land occupant, the compensation amount has not been received yet and the road construction is also hanging in balance.

The NHAI team had gone today with the local administration to convince the occupant, during which a woman set herself on fire inside the house. After this, the police and people present on the spot were shocked. The fire was extinguished after a lot of effort. The woman who was 90 percent burnt was rushed to the Petarwar Community Health Center where the doctors declared her dead. After receiving information about the incident, Bermo SDM Ashok Kumar and the police of the police station area reached the spot and took the body in their custody and sent it for post-mortem.
Long running fight between two groups
Bermo SDM Ashok Kumar said that the administration has been trying for two years to give compensation for road construction, but is still entangled in the battle for supremacy between two groups. Today the administration and NHAI team went to resolve the matter. Whatever allegations are being made are completely baseless. The woman had set the fire to create pressure. This is being investigated.
