Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has written a letter to the Punjab government and warned it. In his letter, he has raised questions on the government’s steps regarding the safety of NHAI officers and contractors. He said that if this continues, the 293KM project worth Rs 14,288 crore will be closed.

The senior BJP leader wrote a letter to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann saying that I have come to know about two incidents that happened recently on the Delhi-Katra Expressway project. A contractor’s engineer was brutally assaulted in Jalandhar district. I am sending you the photograph of the same. However, FIRs have also been registered in connection with this incident. But strict action needs to be taken against the criminals.

At the same time, in another incident in Ludhiana district, miscreants attacked the project camp of a contractor on the Delhi-Katra Expressway. These people tried to burn the engineers and employees alive in the project camp. Despite a written complaint in this matter, a case has not been registered yet.

He requested the CM that the state government should take action by registering FIR against the culprits to prevent such incidents in future and to maintain the confidence of NHAI officials.

The situation has worsened further: Union Minister

The Union Minister also said in his letter, As you know, on July 15, I had a review meeting of Punjab projects with the PWD Minister of Punjab and officials of MoRTH, NHAI and State Government. During the meeting, I was assured that land acquisition and law and order related issues would be resolved on priority basis. However, it has come to my notice that there has been no progress in this regard. The situation there has worsened further.

He warned that earlier in Punjab, 103 km long projects worth Rs. 3263 crores were stopped. If this continues, then 293 km long projects worth Rs. 14288 crores will be stopped.
