Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has been given the responsibility of the highest post of the International Cricket Council (ICC). He will take over as the next chairman in December. The global governing body of cricket, ICC, announced on Tuesday that he is the only nominee for this high-profile post, that is, Jay Shah has been elected to this post without any opposition.

35-year-old Jai Shah will replace the current chairman Greg Barclay, who decided not to contest for the post for a third consecutive term of two years. Jai Shah was the only nominee for the post of president in the ICC.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has become the fifth Indian to be elected to the ICC. Before him, Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N Srinivasan and Shashank Manohar have been elected to this post. Keep in mind that before him Jagmohan Dalmiya and Sharad Pawar were the President of ICC, while before them N Srinivasan and Shashank Manohar occupied the post of ICC Chairman.

One more thing to note is that the post of ICC President was abolished in 2016. Zaheer Abbas was the last ICC President. N Srinivasan became the first ICC Chairman in 2014. Then the posts of ICC Chairman and ICC President went on together for a few years.

The term of the current ICC chairman, Greg Barclay of New Zealand, will end on November 30. Jai Shah will take over as ICC chairman from December 1, 2024.

How much salary will Jai Shah get in ICC
Jay Shah’s post in BCCI i.e. the post of Secretary was an honorary post. In such a situation, he did not get any salary. Even after becoming the Chairman of ICC, Jay Shah will not have any salary. According to the information available on the official website of ICC, ICC Chairperson, ICC Vice Chairperson, Directors (where applicable) get allowances from time to time. That is, ICC officials get remuneration for attending meetings and other official events. However, the exact details of these allowances have not been given.
