‘Nepal is not a photocopy machine of any country’, PM Oli bluntly tells Prachanda, rejects Bangladesh-like situation

Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said on Saturday that there is no possibility of a repeat of the decade-long insurgency in the country. He ruled out the possibility of political unrest like the one in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in recent times. Oli made this remark in Kathmandu at an event organized for the release of the book ‘In to the Fire’ written by Simrik Air Chief Captain Rameshwar Thapa.

Oli said, “I don’t see any possibility of a recurrence of the decade-long insurgency and the government will not allow any such activity to take place again.” He also ruled out the possibility of a recurrence of the political unrest that has taken place in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in recent times.

‘Nepal is not a photocopy machine of any country…’

Oli made it clear that Nepal is not a photocopy machine of any country, so such incidents cannot be repeated here. KP Sharma Oli was reacting to recent comments by CPN-Maoist Center chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, who asked the current coalition led by Oli to learn a lesson from the political unrest in Bangladesh, which toppled the government of Sheikh Hasina.

Sheikh Hasina resigned as prime minister and fled the country after unprecedented anti-government protests on August 5. She arrived in India on August 5 and is currently staying here. The two-month-long anti-reservation protests have led to widespread demonstrations, curfews and violence.

Oli said, “We have our own identity, different civilization and culture, so there is no point in saying that the political unrest that happened in Bangladesh can be repeated in Nepal as well.”

He further said that I want to tell those who advise us to learn from others, to learn for themselves too. We are engaged in strengthening the democratic achievements achieved through a long struggle.

‘There is no place for them…’

Pointing to the pro-monarchy forces, Oli said, “Those who are currently fighting against the democratic system do not need to scare us. Now there is no place in Nepal for those who want to spread chaos, anarchy and violence.”

He said the government would not tolerate any activity that curtails the rights of others or promotes anarchy.

Let us tell you that Oli was pointing to the recent incident in which 2-3 youths raised slogans against Prime Minister Oli and Nepali Congress Chief Sher Bahadur Deuba, who were participating in a cultural program organized at the Open Theater in Kathmandu a few days ago.

In this connection, the police arrested two youths and after a few days they were released on bail.
