Elon Musk’s X platform (old name Twitter) has stopped working in Brazil, now Brazilian users will not be able to use X’s service. The service has been stopped on both mobile and web versions. The service of X platform expired in Brazil on the orders of the Supreme Court of Brazil. There was a long-running dispute between the Brazilian Supreme Court and TESLA CEO Elon Musk.

Justice Alexandre de Moraes, a judge of Brazil’s Supreme Court, issued an order to ban X across the country, a decision he gave on Friday. X has been accused in Brazil of promoting news of coup in Brazil and content that weakens democracy. Let’s understand this whole matter.

Appoint an officer within 24 hours

On Wednesday, Brazil’s Justice de Morais ordered Elon Muks’ X company to appoint a legal officer within 24 hours, but they did not do so. After this, Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court (STF) on Friday issued an order to ban X across the country and also imposed a fine of 18 million reais (about Rs 40 crore).

Orders were also given to Apple and Google

The Brazilian court ordered the National Telecommunications Agency to block it within 24 hours. It also ordered Apple and Google to remove this X app from online play stores within 5 days.

Penalty for driving even after ban

The court order further said that after the ban, if any company or organization uses VPN etc. to run X, then a fine of 50 thousand riyals (about 11 lakh rupees) is to be imposed on it.

Elon Musk’s X platform has alleged that the company’s former legal officer has been receiving threats of being put in jail. This is why even after the deadline of appointing a legal officer within 24 hours, Elon Musk did not appoint anyone.
