NEET-UG paper leak case, The central government has filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court in the NEET paper leak case. The central government has said that it is not in favor of conducting the exam again. It is ensuring that 23 lakh candidates are not burdened with the re-examination on the basis of unproven suspicions. Along with this, the Center has also said that the counseling process will start from the third week of July and it will be conducted in four rounds. Let us tell you, an important hearing is to be held in the Supreme Court today i.e. on July 11 in the NEET case.

The Centre has said in its affidavit that it is also ensuring that no candidate found guilty of taking unfair advantage gets any benefit. If any candidate is found to have taken advantage of any irregularity, the seat of such a person will be cancelled at any stage during the counselling process or even after that.

The Centre said that the Central Government got the analysis done by the experts of IIT Madras regarding the irregularities in the NEET exam, according to which-

1. The marks obtained by the students in this exam form a bell-shaped curve which is often seen in any large-scale exam, which makes it clear that there is no irregularity of any kind in the exam.

2. To find out the irregularities in NEET exam, data of two years of exam centres and cities was analysed. In this, students securing top 1.4 lakh ranks were also analysed, who could have got admission in 1.10 lakh seats across the country.

3. This analysis is nuanced enough to point out any anomalies, whether a large number of students have secured high ranks (top 5%) due to malpractice or whether students from a particular exam-centre or city have benefited.

4. The analysis shows that there is no sign of large-scale manipulation nor are there any unusual advantages to local candidates due to which the marks obtained are not obtained.

5. There has been an overall increase in the marks obtained by students. Especially between 550 to 720. This increase has been observed across different cities and centres. The reason for this is said to be a 25% reduction in the syllabus. Also, the candidates scoring high marks are spread across many cities and many centres, which indicates very little chance of any manipulation.

The government took these steps to prevent future disturbances

The Central Government has said that to ensure that the examination process is made more robust and any kind of malpractice is prevented, the Central Government has constituted a high-level committee of experts to recommend effective measures to conduct transparent, smooth and fair examination by NTA. The committee will be headed by former ISRO Chairman Dr. K Radhakrishnan. Apart from this, the committee includes former AIIMS Director Dr. Randeep Guleria, Vice Chancellor of Hyderabad Central University Prof. BJ Rao, Prof. Ramamurthy, Pankaj Bansal, Prof. Aditya Mittal, Govind Jaiswal, Prof. Amey Karkare and Assistant Professor at IIT Kanpur Dr. Debapriya Roy.

NTA also filed its reply in the Supreme Court

NTA has also filed a reply in the Supreme Court. It states that no question paper was found missing in any trunk in the Patna/Hazaribagh case. NTA has said that-

  • Each question paper has a unique number and is assigned to a particular candidate.
  • No lock has been found broken.
  • Nothing adverse was mentioned in the report of the NTA observers.
  • The CCTV coverage at the command centre was constantly monitored. There was no sign of any untoward incident or paper leak.
  • NTA has denied the alleged leak on Telegram.
  • The NTA said that a picture of the leaked exam paper was posted on Telegram on May 4. But an image that was edited displays a timestamp of 17:40 hrs on May 5, 2024. Additionally, the chat of the Telegram channel indicates that members said the video was fake.
  • The timestamps were manipulated from the start of the exam to create a false impression of a leak.
  • Comments and discussions on social media confirm that the images in the video were edited and the date was deliberately modified to suggest a May 4 leak.
  • The screenshots expose the fabricated nature of the claims made in the video.
