Neeraj Chopra: After the Olympics, Neeraj Chopra will now make a splash in this tournament… Know when the match will be held, also gave a statement on Arshad Nadeem

India’s javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra won the silver medal at the Paris Olympics 2024. In the final, Neeraj threw 89.45 meters in his second attempt. Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem won the gold medal in the men’s javelin throw event. Arshad created an Olympic record by throwing 92.97 in the second attempt. Now a big update has come out about Neeraj Chopra.

Neeraj Chopra will now be seen in action again. Neeraj will be seen throwing javelin in the Lausanne Diamond League on 22 August. During the Paris Olympics, Neeraj Chopra had said that he wanted to play in the Diamond League final to be held in Brussels, Belgium. To make it to the final, he had to play in one leg of the Diamond League – either in Lausanne on 22 August or in Zurich on 5 September. Now Neeraj has decided to participate in the Lausanne leg.

Neeraj Chopra said in an interview, ‘First I was thinking that I will participate in Zurich Diamond League and then in the final Diamond League. The good thing is that there was not much injury after Paris. Ishan bhai (physio) did the treatment during Paris Olympics. Whatever problem I had, he handled it well. Last time also I was asked to undergo surgery, but I won medals in World Championship and Asian Games. Even after Paris Olympics, Ishan bhai did the treatment and he went home. I have decided that I will participate in Lausanne Diamond League which is going to be held on 22nd August. I am feeling quite fine now.’

Regarding Arshad Nadeem’s 92.97 meter throw, Neeraj Chopra says, ‘I never thought that I could not do this. Arshad Nadeem’s previous best was 90.18 meters which he threw in the Commonwealth Games. And my previous best was 89.94 meters. I was mentally prepared, but could not prepare myself physically. My legwork on the track was not as it should have been. My throw was good immediately after Nadeem’s throw because I was extremely positive.’

Let us tell you that the Diamond League final is to be held in Brussels on 13 and 14 September. Each athlete is given 8 points for finishing first in a leg of the Diamond League, 7 for finishing second, 6 for finishing third and 5 for finishing fourth. Neeraj became the first Indian to become a Diamond League champion after winning the 2022 Grand Finale in Zurich.
