King Parikshit died due to the bite of Takshak snake. After some years, the daughter of Takshak’s fourth generation got married to the fourth generation of King Parikshit. After marriage, she told this secret of the past to a maid. The daughter told the maid not to tell this to anyone else but the maid could not resist and she told this to another maid. In this way, this news spread throughout the city.

When this news reached the king of Takshak, he became angry. He ordered all the women of the city to gather at the crossroads. After this, he got them beaten to death with whips. The king was angry that women could not digest anything in their stomachs and due to this, an old story related to his generation from the past spread throughout the empire. According to beliefs, since then the tradition of beating dolls is being observed here.

Second story

According to another story, an ardent devotee of Bholenath used to go to the Shiva temple every day to worship and visit the Naag Devta. The devotee used to feed milk to the Naag Devta every day. Slowly, both of them fell in love. The Naag Devta became so attached to the devotee that on seeing him, he would leave his gem and wrap himself around his feet. One day in the month of Sawan, that devotee came to the same Shiva temple with his sister. As usual, the Naag wrapped itself around the devotee’s feet on seeing him.

Seeing this scene, the sister got frightened. She thought that the snake was biting her brother. To save her brother’s life, the sister beat the snake to death. After this, when the brother told the whole story of himself and the snake to the sister, she started crying. The people present there said that ‘Naag’ is a form of God. You killed him, so you should be punished. However, this sin has been committed unknowingly, so in future, a doll will be beaten instead of a girl on this day. In this way, the tradition of beating the doll on the day of Nag Panchami started.
