Muzaffarnagar: Woman’s body found hanging, family said- son-in-law was demanding a share in sister-in-law’s dowry

The body of a woman was found hanging in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh. As soon as the information of the incident was received, the police reached the spot, took the body in custody and sent it for postmortem and started investigating the case. The family members of the deceased have accused the in-laws of beating her to death. In the initial investigation, the incident seems to be a police suicide. But the officials say that the situation will be clear only after the postmortem report comes.

This incident took place in Bakra Market situated in Kotwali area, Wasim who lived here was married to Anjum 15 years ago. The family members of the deceased Anjum have accused her in-laws of murder. The deceased’s brother Muntazir told the police that brother-in-law Wasim was insisting that he should get half of the dowry that we are giving to our younger sister. Wasim called Anjum home on Monday and late at night he informed us that Anjum has hanged herself.

Married woman’s body found hanging

The deceased’s brother Muntazir says that his younger sister was about to get married and some items were being given as gifts to her in-laws. Brother-in-law Wasim got angry after seeing the items and started demanding half of it. When he did not agree, he beat up his wife Anjum and killed her.

Police registered a case and started investigation

On this incident, CO City Vyom Bindal said that the police had received information about a woman hanging herself. The family members said that she hanged herself around 1.30 to 2 in the night. The family members of the deceased have alleged dowry murder, the case is being investigated in detail, further action will be taken accordingly.
