Musician Uttam Singh and KS Chitra will receive Lata Mangeshkar Award, MP government will honour them

Renowned musician Uttam Singh and playback singer KS Chitra will be honoured with this year’s Lata Mangeshkar Samman award. The two personalities will be given this national award of the Madhya Pradesh government at a ceremony organised in Indore on September 28. The state culture department confers this award every year on Mangeshkar’s birth anniversary.

Ustad Alauddin Khan Music and Arts Academy director Jayant Bhise said, Uttam Singh will be given the Mangeshkar Award for 2022, while Chitra will be given the award for 2023. For the first time, this award ceremony will be held in the auditorium built by the state government in memory of Mangeshkar.

Let us tell you that the great playback singer was born on 28 September 1929 in Indore and died on 6 February 2022 in Mumbai.

Established in 1984, this award aims to encourage artistic excellence in the field of light music. It carries a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh and a citation. Earlier, this award was given to Naushad, Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosle.

Apart from this, famous singer Sudha Raghuraman will be honoured with the National Kumar Gandharva Samman. The Culture Department of Madhya Pradesh will organise Pandit Kumar Gandharva Samaroh on 24th and 25th August in the memory of renowned musician Pt. Kumar Gandharva.
