Murder case against Shakib Al Hasan: Bangladesh players have come out in support of veteran teammate Shakib Al Hasan, who is facing an alleged murder charge linked to the riots that toppled the government earlier this month.

The protests forced the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from power. Bangladesh witnessed weeks of student-led protests that resulted in Hasina fleeing to India on August 5, ending her 15-year rule.
Shanto said, ‘He has been raising the name of Bangladesh in the world for 17 years. Such a case against Shakib Bhai is unexpected. We all want to see something new in the new Bangladesh. I hope that all the darkness will go away and new light will come.’

A murder case was recently registered against Bangladesh cricket team’s star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan. According to a report by Bangladeshi news website Dhaka Tribune, deceased Rubel’s father Rafikul Islam filed a case against Shakib at Dhaka’s Adabor Police Station. Rubel was a textile worker who died during a demonstration.
Apart from Shakib Al Hasan, a murder case was also registered against Bangladeshi actor Firdous Ahmed. Shakib is the 28th accused in this case, while Firdous is the 55th accused. Other accused include former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Obaidul Quader and 154 others. About 400-500 unidentified people have also been made accused.

Shakib Al Hasan and Firdous Ahmed were elected MPs on Awami League ticket in January this year. However, both of them lost their MP seats after the Sheikh Hasina government was ousted from power.
