MP: Cows were driven into the river, half a dozen were swept away in the water; case filed against 4

A video of some cows being driven into a raging river in Satna district of Madhya Pradesh has surfaced on social media. The police have registered a case against four people in this matter. According to reports, 15 to 20 cows have died in this incident which took place under the limits of Nagaud police station, but this information has not been confirmed yet.

Nagaud police station in-charge Ashok Pandey said, on Tuesday evening a video surfaced of some people driving cows into the Satna river under the railway bridge near Bamhor. Taking cognizance of this, a police team was sent to the spot, and then a case was registered.

He said that four people have been identified as Beta Bagri, Ravi Bagri, Rampal Chaudhary and Rajlu Chaudhary. A case has been registered against them under the relevant sections of the Madhya Pradesh Gauvansh Vadh Pratirodh Act. This law prohibits the killing of cows in the state. Also, a case has been registered under the Indian Penal Code.

Station in-charge Ashok Pandey said that the incident took place on Tuesday afternoon. According to initial information, there were about 50 cows and 15 to 20 of them died. Rescue operations are underway.

The police officer said that the exact number of cows thrown into the river and their death will be known only after investigation. Police said that investigation and search for the accused is going on.
