More than 800 birth certificates were issued from a single ID in UP, orders given for investigation

A shocking case has come to light from Hathras in Uttar Pradesh. Officials have found in their investigation that the same user ID of a village was used to issue birth certificates of 814 persons from several states in less than two years. An investigation has been started after the case came to light.

Officials said the population of Sinchavali Sani village is around 1,100. However, a total of 814 birth certificates were issued using the village’s user ID for the Civil Registration System (CRS) in the last 19 months. These certificates have been issued not only to residents of Uttar Pradesh but also to individuals from other states including Jharkhand, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Karnataka.

The official said, so far in the investigation it has been found that 780 certificates have been issued in Uttar Pradesh, 13 in Jharkhand, 12 in Bihar, four each in Madhya Pradesh and Haryana and one in Karnataka. The number of such cases may increase as the investigation progresses.

Ishwar Chand, who reported the matter to senior officials, said he got access to the CRS portal on August 5. By then, 814 birth certificates had been issued using the ID. All these certificates had Sinchawali Sani as the place of birth.

The District Magistrate said this in the matter

District Magistrate Ashish Kumar said that an investigation has been initiated. Hathras Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Manjit Singh has been assigned the task of leading the investigation. Efforts are being made to find out how the ID was leaked. The ID was recently handed over to the Panchayat Secretary of Sinchawali Sani. The investigation will soon find out the source of the leak and the misuse.
