Monkey terror in Supreme Court, woman lawyer bitten, had to wander from door to door for treatment

On Thursday, a group of monkeys did something to defy the budget and tenders of lakhs of rupees in the Supreme Court. They ambushed the gate number G behind the Supreme Court and bit a woman lawyer. The plight did not end here. The injured woman lawyer did not even get treatment in the CGHS clinic located in the Supreme Court, because renovation work is going on there. Therefore, the work is going on in a very limited manner.

Proper medicine was not available in the polyclinic. The duty doctors there cleaned the wound but proper medicine was not available. Then the Delhi government clinic also faced a similar situation and the injured lawyer had to go to RML hospital for treatment. Actually, before lawyer S Selvakumari could enter from the G gate of the museum located behind the Supreme Court, aggressive monkeys attacked her.

By the time Selvakumari, screaming for help, could reach inside, a ferocious monkey bit her leg. After this, she started wandering around in pain and blood-soaked clothes, which ended two hours later at RML Hospital. It is surprising that an employee is posted in the Supreme Court with a stick in his hand to drive away monkeys and dogs. Now, there are chances of a flood of PILs in the court regarding the terror of monkeys. It is possible that suo motu cognizance may be taken.

Let us tell you that in the year 2022, the Supreme Court had issued an official tender to drive away the monkeys entering the bungalows of the judges. The notice said that monkey repellents would be deployed as per the requirement in about 40 bungalows located within a radius of three to five kilometers of the Supreme Court. In the year 2023, a PIL was filed in the Delhi High Court. It sought the formation of a committee to ensure the implementation of the instructions issued by a coordination bench in the year 2007 to curb the ‘monkey menace’ in the national capital.
