Molestation in Birbhum, West Bengal, patient touched nurse inappropriately while administering drip

Amid the rape and murder of a junior doctor by RG Kar, a case of molestation has come to light at a government health center in Birbhum district. A person has been arrested on the complaint of molestation of the nursing staff on duty at Ilambazar Health Center under Birbhum district. The incident is said to have happened on Saturday night. The victim nurse alleged before the police that when she went to administer drip to a sick youth brought to the health center on a stretcher, the patient molested her and touched her body inappropriately.

As soon as the news of this incident spread in the entire area, tension spread in the health center of Ilambazar. On Saturday night, on the call of the hospital administration, the police reached the spot and arrested the accused patient. A written complaint has also been lodged in the Ilambazar police station regarding the incident. The police has also started an investigation regarding it.

The nurse who went to administer the drip was touched inappropriately

According to the information, on Saturday night, a young man was brought to Ilambazar Block Primary Health Center for treatment due to illness. His family members were also with him. After which he was taken to the emergency ward. On the advice of the doctor, a nurse went to give drip to the young man. That’s when the alleged molestation incident took place.

Hospital members threatened not to work

The victim nurse said that a male patient was brought in the night shift with fever. When I was giving drip to the patient as per the advice of the doctors, he misbehaved with me. He touched me inappropriately and used abusive language for me. We are feeling unsafe working because there is lack of proper security here. How can a patient do this?”

Dr Masidul Hasan, who was on duty at the health centre on Saturday night, told reporters that at around 8:30 pm, a patient S.K. Abbas Uddin from Chotochak village came to the health centre suffering from fever. As soon as he came, he started misbehaving. After some medical check-up, we advised him to give some injections and IV fluids. When the nurse went to him, the patient misbehaved with her violently. We requested the patient’s side to cooperate with us, we are providing the necessary treatment. But still no one listened. The police have been informed about the matter. If no action is taken, we will stop working.
