There are many people who are afraid of going into the water. If you also feel like this, then these are the symptoms of aquaphobia. Actually, this is a mental condition in which there is a deep fear inside the person and whenever he goes near the water, his heart starts beating fast, palms become sweaty and breathing becomes fast. A person suffering from aquaphobia is also afraid of the waves of the sea. Many people even get panic attacks while bathing in water. This is such a huge fear that can disrupt normal functioning and interfere with daily life.

How to prevent aquaphobia…

1. Do not panic while going into the water

Face your fear by slowly getting into the pool and getting your body used to the feel of the water. Step slowly into the pool and stand knee-deep in water. Once you reach the middle of the pool, focus on the feel of the water on your skin. Keep walking slowly until you get over the initial tension, nervousness and fear. After getting comfortable in knee-deep water, slowly go into the water up to your waist and then chest. This will start to reduce your nervousness.

2. Face the water

At the deep end of the pool, hold on to the pool railing or edge with one hand and press your nose with the other hand and slowly dip your face into the water. Continue dipping your face into the water until your tension and fear are gone. When you feel comfortable with your face underwater, try blowing bubbles underwater without pressing your nose. By being patient, you can overcome aquaphobia.

3. Avoid negative thoughts

Challenge and try to understand the negative thoughts you have about water. Often people with aquaphobia have irrational thoughts about the dangers of water or their ability to cope with being near it. So think positively to counter these thoughts.

4. Set small goals

Set small and achievable goals for yourself related to water exposure. Celebrate your progress and recognize that overcoming aquaphobia is easy. For example, your first goal could be to stand near a small pool for a few minutes without any fear. Only by setting small goals will you be able to achieve the bigger goal.
