In the meeting of the National Executive of Bahujan Samaj Party on Tuesday, Mayawati (68 years) has been unanimously elected as the National President again. She has been continuously elected as the National President of the party since 18 September, 2003. In this meeting, it has also been decided to give the responsibility of many states to National Convenor Akash Anand. This includes UP, MP, Delhi and the election state Haryana. Akash will take charge of the campaign in the election states and will work towards strengthening the organization.

BSP has decided that it will contest assembly elections in Haryana, Jammu Kashmir, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Delhi. The party has completed preparations for contesting the elections. It will enter the fray with full force. BSP has to fight these elections especially against both BJP and Congress and has to move ahead by becoming the balance of power.

Many coordinators were relieved of responsibility

In this meeting, BSP Central Executive Committee (CEC) and senior national level officials, state units and representatives elected from across the country were called. In this special meeting, a decision was taken on the party president. Apart from this, many coordinators have also been removed. Mayawati took over the command of BSP two decades ago

Mayawati has been the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh four times. She has been a member of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. She has been a member of the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council in UP. BSP founder Kanshiram had declared her as his political successor two decades ago. This year, Mayawati has also announced the name of Akash Anand as her successor. Akash has also been given the responsibility of national coordinator.

Earlier in May, during the Lok Sabha election campaign, BSP chief Mayawati had relieved Akash Anand of all responsibilities. Mayawati had removed Akash from the post of National Coordinator and her successor. The BSP chief had decided to give both these responsibilities to Akash in December 2023. Mayawati said that Akash Anand would be kept away from both the important responsibilities until he attains full maturity. However, after the election results came in June, Akash was once again made powerful and was given all the responsibilities back.
