Mathura: 50 people admitted to hospital after eating ‘prasad’ made of buckwheat flour on Janmashtami, health deteriorated, food poisoning suspected

More than 50 people fell ill due to food poisoning in a village in Mathura on Janmashtami day. Dozens of people, including women and children, have been admitted to the hospital. Officials said that this incident happened during the Janmashtami festival on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. Priyanka, a teenager admitted to the government hospital, said – We ate pakodas made of buckwheat flour at night. After this, I started vomiting and felt burning sensation in the stomach.

At the same time, a resident of Parkham village who came with the patient told that after eating pakodas, people started complaining of dizziness, vomiting and shivering. Buckwheat flour was bought from a local shop in the village. After eating it, about 50 people of the village fell ill.

Another resident of the village, Mahesh, told the news agency, “My wife is unable to stand, she has become very weak, almost fainted.” Many people in the village had used buckwheat flour for the fast.

At the same time, a doctor from the hospital said that around 29 patients were admitted here at 1 am with complaints of vomiting and nervousness. The doctor said- I was told that some other patients have also been taken to different hospitals. All the people admitted here are undergoing treatment, their condition is stable and improving.

According to the information received, more than 50 people fell ill after eating pakodas made of buckwheat flour in half a dozen villages of Farah block of Mathura. The sick people reached the hospital after their health deteriorated late at night, where they were referred to other hospitals in Mathura due to the high number of patients. After the incident, there was a stir in the health department team and the district administration.

People of villages like Parkham, Baroda, Makhdoom Khairat etc. have fallen victim to food poisoning. Villagers told that there are some shops in the area from where the devotees had bought buckwheat flour. It is feared that the quality of the flour may be bad or some toxic substance may have been mixed in it. At present, investigation is going on along with the treatment of the patients.
