Marriage in 2014, torture by step mother, then started living alone… Story of Bareilly’s psycho killer Kuldeep

A ‘war room’ was set up in the SSP office of Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, at least a hundred policemen divided into 22 teams, checking of more than 1500 CCTV footages, installation of 600 new CCTV cameras, checking of dump data of 1.5 lakh mobile numbers, investigation in a radius of 25 km and finally after a year the ‘serial killer’ was caught. He killed nine middle-aged women one after the other in about 14 months.

Actually, the police had arrested Kuldeep Gangwar in the case of murders of women in Sheeshgarh and Shahi police station area. He is a resident of Bakarganj village of Nawabganj police station area. Accused Kuldeep has confessed to the police that he has killed six women. He is 35 years old. His father had married again. His stepmother used to torture him. Kuldeep’s biological mother and two sisters have died.

Kuldeep got married in 2014, but after some time his wife left him. After these incidents, Kuldeep developed hatred towards women. He started killing women selectively. All of them were murdered by strangulation in deserted fields. During interrogation, Kuldeep told that he was irritated with women. He started hating them. That is why he used to kill women selectively.

Women were being murdered in a systematic manner in Thana Shahi area of ​​Bareilly, these incidents had spread terror in the area. 9 women were killed in the last 14 months. All these women were murdered in the same pattern. All these incidents took place within a radius of 20 to 25 kilometers.

Dead bodies of middle-aged women were found in the fields and their jewellery was missing. Regarding these incidents, the police had recently released sketches of 3 suspects. Along with this, a number was released and an appeal was made to give information immediately.

This serial killer had made the people of 90 villages of Bareilly sleepless. Due to his fear, women had stopped going out of the house alone. People were scared of going to work in the fields. From the first murder which remained a mystery for a year till his arrest, police teams kept searching every nook and corner in search of him.

Women were being murdered in Shahi, Sheeshganj and Fatehganj police station areas of Bareilly since July last year. There was a lot of similarity in these murders. All the murders happened during the afternoon. The murderer was killing women aged between 50 and 60 years. He used the pallu or dupatta of the women’s saree for murder and tied a knot on the left side of their neck. Most of the murders happened in or around sugarcane fields. These things were indicating that a serial killer is behind these crimes.

According to the police, Kuldeep, who came from the rural area of ​​Bareilly, lived like a nomad. He often stayed outside. He did not have his own house. He would often go to his relatives’ place for food and then leave. People could never understand that Kuldeep was killing women. When the police started making a list of such roaming drug addicts and suspicious people, Kuldeep came on the police radar.
